  Guidance for Choosing a Sponsor:
  A sponsor must be a practicing Catholic.
  A sponsor may not be a parent.
  He or she must have a good relationship with the Confirmation candidate.
  If a sponsor has an unexpected conflict and is unable to attend the Confirmation ceremony, another person may stand in for the sponsor on Confirmation Day. The official record will still contain the name of the chosen sponsor.
  Godparents may be Confirmation sponsors.
